In Luke 8:22-25, the disciples find themselves in a life-threatening storm. Gripped with fear they cried out, "Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” Jesus rebuked the storm and asked the disciples, "WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?" Jesus was determined to instill faith into His disciples, so He placed them in a second storm. This time, He wasn't in the boat and challenged Peter to walk on the water with Him (Matt 14:27-33). We see this story throughout the synoptic gospels because Jesus is trying to teach us FAITH! Jesus says if we listen and obey His word, we will remain strong and courageous through every storm that life throws at us. It is important that we are meditating on His Word and listening for His voice. This is how our faith increases. Faith comes by hearing and hearing HIS Word (Rom 10:17). Through these storms JESUS was teaching us three primary lessons.
1. We need to "remember who you’re connected to."
Don't forget, Jesus, the Creator of the universe, is in the boat with you! “For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus"(Ephesians 2). Don't fear! You’re united with Jesus!
2. We need to "Remember our value".
Peter looked at the waves and wondered, will Jesus save me? Will He allow me to drown?? The answer is, OF COURSE NOT! You’re the apple of His eye! When you understand your value, you don't have to be afraid. Isaiah 43:1-3 says, LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed (you’re valuable) you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
3. "Remember your authority!"
Jesus invited people to walk with Him in authority over the waves. As long as our faith is high, because of our focus on JESUS, we can walk in the miraculous. We are Christ’s ambassadors. In other words, we carry His authority! “And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven" (Matthew 16:19). Let's not forget, Jesus commanded the disciples each time to cross the lake. If He asks you to do it, He will see to it! You don't have to worry when you know God’s will. His will is made clear by renewing our minds with His Word (Romans 12:2). Let me ask you, WHERE IS YOUR FAITH? I want to challenge you to focus on these three lessons and step into a faith-filled lifestyle.
