10.14.18 - "Oh My Goodness"

Exodus 33:18-23 NKJV “And he said, “Please, show me Your glory ” Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” And the LORD said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.””

In this passage, Moses is asking to see the glory of God. The root word for glory means, "what you are known for." God replies by declaring that He will show His goodness to Moses. In essence, God is saying I am known for being GOOD! The rock represents Jesus. When we are in Jesus, we see the goodness of God. Jesus came to display the goodness or glory of God. PSALMS 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” When you truly see or taste who God is, you will not discover anger, disappointment, or condemnation. Instead, you will discover the goodness of His love. The story of Hosea displays the goodness of God. Hosea DOES NOT HAVE AN ENVIOUS assignment! God tells Hosea to marry Gomer, the prostitute, and exemplify the Father's love for His people. So Hosea leaves His place to go after her and falls in live with her. Jesus did the same for us! He left His throne and 'came into this world to demonstrate His goodness to us. “But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ROMANS 5:8 (AMP)  After Hosea marries Gomer, she leaves Him to go back to her old life. Despite the rejection and hurt, Hosea goes after Gomer and pays a price for her in order to take her home. “Then the Lord said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.”” Hosea 3:1 NLT Remember, “God is not mad at you because of the mess, He’s obsessed with getting you out of it!” It's His relentless love that changes us..."the goodness of God leads you to repentance.” Romans 2:4 NKJV. The enemy works overtime to condemn, but God CONTINUALLY CLEANSES. Hosea brings her home, cleans her up, encourages her, and wipes away the mark of her past. “You are not identified by your failures, you are identified as a child of God!." Now, I have a question! SINCE GOD IS THIS GOOD TO US, SHOULDN'T WE BE THE SAME WAY TO OTHERS? Isaiah 58:5-7, 11 says the fast that God wants is for us to "..Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless". THEN God will bless you in every way (Isaiah 58:8, 12, 14). Since God is so good to us, let's leave our world of comfort and reach out to people in there world! 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 MSG “Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!” Has God loved us through our mess? Yes! Let's befriend the lost and love them! Has God forgiven us and encouraged us through our failures? YES! Let's love others the same way! Church, let's display the goodness of God because God has been so good to us!
