3 attributes of God’s Word

- Pastor Evan Pitts

Hebrews 4:12 Says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” IS THE WORD OF GOD ALIVE AND ACTIVE in your life? The Word can penetrate through any situation, thought, or emotion. It separates darkness in our lives and brings us into His light! David said,

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalms 119:105 NLT. The same way Jesus was Alive and Active on the earth, SO IS HIS WORD TODAY! Don't forget, Jesus IS the Word (John 1:24). Let's evaluate the Activity of Jesus or The Word in Matthew 8:1-4 NLT. “Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. Then Jesus said to him, “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”” Sin can be leprosy to the soul. We do not need behavioral modification, instead we need a heart transformation. This only occurs by the POWER of the Word! Let's look at three attributes of God’s Word that we can pull from this portion of Scripture.

1. THE WILL OF GOD IS HIDDEN IN THE WORD

The Leper said, "God if you’re willing, heal me." The question wasn't if God could…the question was, will He do it for me?! Here's a secret you will find about God’s will... God is Good! Psalms 34:8 NKJV, “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” We must visualize and chew on the GOODNESS of God! It's when we do this that we will be confident of His will. Listen to David's confidence in God’s goodness. Psalms 23:6 NKJV, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

2. THE WORD CLEANSES US

Secondly, The Word cleanses and gives us a fresh start. "Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared". Like with this leper, God is not scared of your mess! God is not mad at you for your mess, He wants to CLEAN IT! 1 John 1:9 NLT “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” Your confession causes cleansing. When we confess God’s goodness, we begin to live in the OVERFLOW. Psalms 23:5 NLT “...My cup overflows with blessings.” Confess your sins, Declare His goodness, and begin to overflow!

3. THE WORD PRODUCES FREEDOM

When Jesus asked the leper to bring the offering to Moses, He knew that he would receive a picture of freedom. The offering submitted for the cleansing of leprosy was to bring two birds, one of the birds would be sacrificed and the other would fly away free. This is a picture of the sacrifice Jesus made in order for us to be free. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (II Corinthians 5:21). Are you living in freedom? Allow God to give you a picture that "whom the Son sets free is free indeed!" Our past, present, and future sins has been eradicated at Calvary (Hebrews 10:12-14). You aren't free if you’re always sin conscious. Instead, become conscious of the goodness of God. It's picturing His goodness that brings change. Remember! There is NO condemnation for those that are in Jesus (Romans 8:1). Friends, let's discover God’s will, receive a fresh start by His cleansing, and walk in freedom by picturing or focusing on His goodness.
