6 Attributes of Wisdom

- Pastor Evan Pitts

Are you happy?

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;” Proverbs 3:13 NKJV

Are you succeeding?

“If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.” Ecclesiastes 10:10 NKJV

Do you have peace? Trouble sleeping? “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24 NKJV

We all need to GET WISDOM! WHAT IS WISDOM? It is not intelligence, knowledge, or understanding. You can't get it from a textbook. Wisdom is the grace of God to put all of our knowledge into action in order to fulfill God’s purpose. Solomon was known to be the wisest man that ever walked on earth besides Jesus. In Proverbs 8, he wrote about the excellence of wisdom. Through verses 27-30, we get 6 marks of wisdom. Proverbs 8:27 says, “When He prepared the heavens, I (Wisdom) was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him,”. Through this scripture we discover 6 attributes of wisdom.

1. Wisdom Prepares!

Proverbs 28:19 – without vision people parish!

Are you use to winging it? We tend to behave this way when we lack vision. RUDY GIULIANI (former mayor of NYC) says, "Preparation doesn't begin with what you do. It begins with what you believe. What you receive tomorrow depends on what you believe today. If you are preparing today, chances are you will not be repairing tomorrow.”

When we look at the excellence of creation and the death, burial, and resurrection, we can clearly see the preparation of God. We are made in His image!

2. Wisdom Draws Out

Ask question yourself these questions: What day do you clean your car? What time do you work out?

What time do you pray? NOW... What time do you go to work or school? You will only consistently do the things you schedule! Habakkuk 2:2 says, "write the vision down and make it plain so others can run with it"!

What are your goals, plans and schedule?

If it's not on a schedule, we are not doing it!!! If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

JOHN MAXWELL says, "What separates motivated people from all others? The answer is that he has goals. On the success journey the goals you set become your route."

3. Wisdom Establishes

To establish is to make something permanent. Make up your mind what the plan is and settle it! If it's on your schedule, make No excuses! I would but! I could but! I want too but! Let's get our “big buts” out of the way and JUST DO IT! Remember, procrastination is the fertilizer that causes problems to grow!

4. Wisdom Strengthens

“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

Proverbs 4:7 NKJV

Sharpen yourself! Leaders are readers! Ask those who are ahead of you questions. Get away and evaluate something excellent! Strengthen yourself by only listening to faith!

5. Wisdom Assigns Limits

This speaks to us about using Self-discipline with our PRIORITIES! Your time is precious! Use it wisely.

We will only succeed in what's important by eliminating what's not! Are you spinning too many plates? Get rid of some and focus on what's most important! Author H. Jackson Brown said, “talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates." - there's a lot of movement but u never know if it's going forward, backward or sideways!

6. Wisdom Marks Out

Mark out your territory and OWN IT! Be determined to be a good steward by taking care of what God has given you. Those that are faithful with a little, will rule over much!

Let's ask God for wisdom!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 NKJV

Remember, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 NKJV

God gives us grace to operate in wisdom when we humble ourselves and ask God for this precious gift called wisdom!
